Code Tenderloin
AN IDENTITY ROOTED IN PLACE

Code Tenderloin is a San Francisco nonprofit creating pathways to opportunity for residents of the Tenderloin through job readiness, technology education, and community support. As the organization grew, they needed an identity that felt as distinct, resilient, and deeply rooted as the community they serve.

The solution was hiding in plain sight.

While researching the neighborhood and its history, I began looking at the Tenderloin from above. On the map of San Francisco, its boundaries create an unmistakable geometric shape—one that belongs uniquely to this neighborhood. That footprint became the foundation of the new mark: a symbol drawn directly from the place Code Tenderloin calls home.

The typography takes its cues from the city as well. Tight letterspacing creates a dense, vertical rhythm inspired by San Francisco’s urban landscape and the buildings surrounding the Tenderloin.

Together, the mark and typography create an identity that feels bold, ownable, and unmistakably local. Rather than simply representing Code Tenderloin, the identity represents the neighborhood—and the community—they show up for every day.
